Mobile website design

The use of mobile devices to access the internet - smart phones and tablets - is increasing exponentially. Some estimates put mobile internet searches as surpassing traditional desktop searches in the next couple of years. Whilst mobile browsers - the browsers used in smart phones and tablets - generally do a good job in displaying full size websites, the small screen sizes of mobile devices make traditional websites hard to use.

The harder a website is to use, the less likely it is used.

The above window shows the actual live Hot Lemon mobile website. It is fully usable and can be controlled by the mouse, mouse scroll wheel and arrow keys.

You can view the mobile version of this website, by visiting www.hot-lemon.com on your smart phone.

The demonstration above is the same pixel size as displayed on a mobile device. If you are viewing this on a monitor - because the pixel density is less - it will seem larger.

Websites for mobile devices

Hot Lemon can help your business make the most of the mobile web.

We offer two primary mobile services, mobile optimisation and dedicated mobile websites.

Mobile optimisation

Using this approach, we optimise the website so that it fully scales across all platforms, whilst keeping the same content throughout (although content can be hidden to aid usability).

The size of the screen the website is viewed on will determine the font sizes, widths and images displayed. Navigation features will be simpler (for finger control) and images optimised for the lower bandwidth of mobile devices.

Mobile website

The other approach we use, is to develop a seperate version of the website that is specifically designed for use on a mobile browser. Mobile users are then redirected to this version of the site.

The mobile site can then be fully optimised for mobile users, maybe by having reduced but more focussed content.

This is the technique that Hot Lemon uses, as well as Facebook.
